Koh Larn Thailand

Koh Larn, Thailand.

Koh Larn

🙂

Koh Larn is a wonderful little island in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Larn is located about 7 km off the coast of Pattaya Beach of which is about two hours drive south of Bangkok. The Island is about 4 km in length and about 2 km wide. The main village is called Naban.

There are ferries connecting Koh Larn to the mainland. The ferry ride takes about 40 minutes. Ferries leave south Pattaya Bali Hai pier daily from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm. The return ferry leaves Naban Beach at 06.30 am to 6:00 pm.

There are about six main beaches on the island that boast white sand and clear blue water. Koh Larn is a lush green tropical island which has an abundant amount of rain fall each year during monsoon. The terrain is mostly mountainous.  Infrastructure here in mostly narrow roadways.

There are many activities here for visitors to enjoy, some include para sailing, snorkeling, jet ski, banana boat, swimming in tropical waters, and there is even a shooting range located here.

Most of Koh Lan’s beaches are on its western side. The most visited one is Tawaen Beach, where there is a small harbor. All the length of the beach is lined with small tourist shops behind which are dining halls of restaurants whose menu is based mainly on fish and seafood. Other beaches are Tonglang Beach, Tien Beach, Samae Beach and Naon Beach.

We rented a motorbike to go around  exploring the island. Most of the motorbikes have automatic clutch,  so you don’t even need to shift gears.  We don’t even need a map of the island because we have local Thai friend as our guide. Thanks again to Jan and her husband.

There are many road signs written in English, on the island that should keep you from getting lost. If however you do get lost it won’t take you long to find your way again, the island is not that big.

Naban Port is a major port that ferries will drop visitors off. It is seen as a front door of Koh Larn and as the center of facilities available in Koh Larn since visitors can find a range of restaurants, accommodations, souvenir shops, convenient stores and so on.

Tawaen Beach

Tawaen beach is the biggest and busiest.  Lots of restaurants, some shops, all activities available.   It’s a bit crowded for some tastes, but some people may like that.  The water is beautiful, and some boats go directly to this beach, where there is a boat dock, making it easily accessible.

Samae Beach.

Considered the prettiest beach, somewhat more upscale than the other places.  Nice selection of quality restaurants.  Somewhat more spacious, the place is big but doesn’t seem that crowded.

Nual Beach.

Nual Beah on the far end of the island;  very quiet, only a handful of people. This beach sometimes has nudist.

Rimtalay Resort.

We rented a bungalow for the night at Rimtalay Resort.  You can have a beautiful view of Pattaya from the resort. They are very simple accommodations, but acceptable.
